predavalnica P21]: "Not everything we say is meant to be understood
literally. With figurative language, we can communicate implicit
meaning in fun and creative ways. Irony is a form of such figurative
language, where the intended meaning strongly contrasts with the
literal meaning of the text. This contrast between literal and
intended meaning makes the detection of irony and sarcasm a
particularly interesting and valuable research topic for the NLP
community. In this talk, I will present how I approached irony
detection in Dutch and English during my PhD research. Besides
automatic detection, this talk also considers what automatic systems
identify as cues for irony, and how this compares to the human
approach. For humans, we know that world knowledge plays an important
role. However, whether automatic systems can access such information,
and how they interact with it, remains a topic for further study."
