Use of TLR-ligand interaction to generate immunomodulators and adjuvants


TLRs as prototypical receptors of innate immunity has a great capacity to recognize diverse ligands with a conserved canonical structure. Different TLR have a spectrum of recognition of distinct molecular patterns. Enhancing or blocking TLR signaling can be envisaged for adjuvant or anti-inflammatory effects respectively. The generation of a fusion protein between Brucella lumazine sinthetase and Salmonella flagellin will be discussed. This fusion protein forms a decameric structure with antigen carriage capacity. Furthermore, the generation of low molecular weight peptide agonists to TLR5 will also be discussed.
