Vabimo vas na 6. predavanje iz sklopa »Kolokviji na IJS« v akademskem letu 2025/26, ki bo v sredo, 4. februarja 2026, ob 13:00 v Veliki predavalnici Instituta »Jožef Stefan« na Jamovi cesti 39 v Ljubljani. Predavanje bo v slovenščini. Na voljo bodo kava, pijača in prigrizki.
Pulzna laserska depozicija na Institutu »Jožef Stefan«

Pulzna laserska depozicija (PLD) predstavlja eno izmed ključnih tehnik za sintezo epitaksialnih tankih plasti in heterostruktur. V predavanju bom opisal, kako smo na Institutu »Jožef Stefan« z uporabo tehnike PLD razvili postopek rasti funkcionalnih oksidov na polprevodniških platformah s kontrolo na atomskem nivoju. V primeru silicijevega substrata sta ključna koraka epitaksialne integracije pasivizacija s stroncijem z ustrezno rekonstrukcijo silicijeve površine ter kinetično kontrolirana sekvenčna depozicija oksida. Kot alternativo direktni epitaksiji smo z uporabo grafena razvili postopek van der Waalsove epitaksije, s čimer smo zmanjšali zahteve vpenjanja oksidov na silicij in njuno medsebojno reaktivnost. Na tako pripravljenih psevdosubstratih smo nadalje preučevali razvoj zelenega vodika, kakor tudi magnetne, feroelektrične in piezoelektrične lastnosti heterostruktur, funkcionalnosti pa smo ciljno prilagajali preko načrtovanja epitaksialnih in termičnih napetosti v oksidnih plasteh.
O predavatelju: Matjaž Spreitzer je znanstveni svetnik na Institutu »Jožef Stefan«, kjer vodi Odsek za raziskave sodobnih materialov. Hkrati je izredni profesor na Mednarodni podiplomski šoli Jožefa Stefana v Ljubljani.

Pulsed laser deposition at the Jožef Stefan Institute

Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) is one of the key techniques for synthesizing epitaxial thin films and heterostructures. In the lecture, I will describe how, at the Jožef Stefan Institute, we used PLD to develop a process for growing functional oxides on semiconductor platforms with atomic-level control. In the case of silicon substrates, the two key steps of epitaxial integration are strontium passivation with an appropriate reconstruction of the silicon surface and the kinetically controlled sequential deposition of an oxide layer. As an alternative to direct epitaxy, we developed a graphene-mediated van der Waals epitaxy process, thereby reducing both the strain-matching requirements for oxides on silicon and their mutual reactivity. Using as-prepared pseudo-substrates, we further investigated green hydrogen production as well as the magnetic, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties of heterostructures, and we deliberately tuned their functionalities by engineering epitaxial and thermal strain within the oxide layers.
About the lecturer: Matjaž Spreitzer is a scientific councilor at the Jožef Stefan Institute where he heads the Advanced Materials Department, and an associate professor at the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School in Ljubljana.
