Abstract:

The University of São Paulo (USP) is at the forefront of artificial intelligence (AI) research and innovation in Brazil, supported by two pivotal centers: the Center for Artificial Intelligence (C4AI) and the Center for Studies in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (CIAAM). This presentation explores the contributions and initiatives of these centers in advancing AI technology and applications across various sectors.

C4AI (Center for Artificial Intelligence): C4AI, established in partnership with IBM, FAPESP, and USP, focuses on developing AI solutions that address societal challenges. The center aims to foster interdisciplinary research, promote innovation, and disseminate AI knowledge. Key research areas include natural language processing, machine learning, and AI ethics. C4AI collaborates with public and private entities to implement AI-driven projects that enhance education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability.

CIAAM (Center for Studies in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning): CIAAM, dedicated to supporting USP's teaching, research, and extension activities in AI and machine learning, strives to be a national and international leader in these fields. The center's mission includes generating knowledge, developing technology, and promoting ethical AI practices. CIAAM's research initiatives are strategically multidisciplinary, focusing on innovation through public-private partnerships and addressing societal needs.

Conclusion: USP's C4AI and CIAAM are instrumental in driving AI research and applications in Brazil. Their efforts in interdisciplinary collaboration, ethical AI development, and real-world applications demonstrate their critical role in shaping the future of AI.
