“The challenge of reproducibility: from microarrays to Next-Generation 
Sequencing”


FBK-MPBA: Predictive Models for Biomedicine and Environment

This talk will discuss the controversial issue of scientific 
reproducibility in the context of predictive pipelines for biomarkers 
identified from high-throughput Omics data. After reflecting about one 
recent ‘horror story’ on lack of reproducibility, I will present the 
results of a Nature Genetics retrospective study and the guidelines 
emerging from the FDA MAQCII initiative for predictive biomarkers from 
microarray data. Finally, pragmatic approaches and recent experience 
with pipelines for the newest ultra-high throughput sequencing data will 
be introduced.
