Do leta 2035 naj bi se število primerov raka povečalo za 24 %, zaradi česar bo rak postal glavni vzrok smrti v EU. Trenutno vodilna specifična molekularna slikovna tehnika za diagnosticiranje raka temelji na pozitronski emisijski tomografiji (PET), ki pa je na voljo le v manj kot 0,5% medicinskih centrov na svetu, predvsem zaradi visokih stroškov skenerjev PET. V projektu Evropskega sveta za inovacije PetVision, ki ga koordinira Institut »Jožef Stefan«, razvijamo novo generacijo naprav, ki bodo z natančno meritvijo časa omogočile popolnoma modularne, cenovno dostopne in prilagodljive skenerje PET. V predavanju bom predstavil dolgoročno vizijo, cilje projekta in prebojne korake na področju zasnove detektorja, fotosenzorja in elektronike za zajem podatkov.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>O predavatelju</b>: Rok Pestotnik je znanstveni svetnik na Institutu »Jožef Stefan«, kjer je koordinator evropskega projekta EIC Pathfinder na Odseku za eksperimentalno fiziko osnovnih delcev. By 2035, the number of cancer cases is expected to increase by 24%, making cancer the leading cause of death in the EU. Currently, the leading specific molecular imaging technique for cancer diagnosis is based on positron emission tomography (PET), which is available in less than 0.5% of medical centers worldwide, mainly due to the high cost of PET scanners. In the European Innovation Council project PetVision, coordinated by the Jožef Stefan Institute, we are developing a new generation of devices that will enable completely modular, affordable, and adaptable PET scanners by means of precise time measurement. In this lecture, I will present the long-term vision, project goals and breakthroughs in the design of the detector, photosensor and data acquisition electronics.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b>About the lecturer</b>: Rok Pestotnik is a scientific councilor at the Jožef Stefan Institute, where he is the coordinator of the European project EIC Pathfinder at the Experimental Particle Physics Department.
