Vabimo vas na 8. predavanje iz sklopa »Kolokviji na IJS« v akademskem letu 2025/26, ki bo v sredo, 4. marca 2026, ob 13:00 v Veliki predavalnici Instituta »Jožef Stefan« na Jamovi cesti 39 v Ljubljani. Predavanje bo v angleščini. Po predavanju bodo na voljo kava, pijača in prigrizki.
Globoko učenje pri iskanju temne snovi: pregled

Globoko učenje je v zadnjih letih postalo dragoceno orodje v prizadevanjih za razumevanje temne snovi, saj raziskovalcem pomaga proučevati šibke signale v širokem naboru eksperimentov, od visokoenergijskih trkalnikov do neposrednih in posrednih iskanj. Z analizo obsežnih podatkovnih nizov in odkrivanjem natančnih vzorcev lahko te metode razkrijejo morebitne znake temne snovi, ki jih tradicionalni pristopi pogosto spregledajo. V predavanju bom predstavil širok pregled tega, kako globoko učenje in sorodne metode strojnega učenja spreminjajo načine iskanja temne snovi, s poudarkom na ključnih prebojih in aktualnih izzivih. Osvetlil bom tudi nekaj obetavnih smeri za prihodnji razvoj.
O predavatelju: Roberto Ruiz de Austri je raziskovalec v Španskem državnem raziskovalnem centru (CSIC) in Inštitutu za fiziko delcev (IFIC), kjer se ukvarja s fiziko onkraj standardnega modela, s poudarkom na iskanju temne snovi z metodami umetne inteligence, kozmologiji in fiziki gravitacijskih valov. Je osrednji član kolaboracije GAMBIT, sodeluje pri CheckMATE in CosmiXs, pri eksperimentih ATLAS in MoEDAL ter misiji LISA.

Deep learning in the search for dark matter: an overview

Deep learning has quickly become a valuable tool in the quest to understand dark matter, helping researchers explore faint signals across a range of experiments, from high-energy colliders to direct and indirect searches. By sifting through vast datasets and uncovering subtle patterns, these techniques can reveal signs of dark matter that traditional approaches might miss. In this talk, I will provide a broad overview of how deep learning and related machine-learning approaches are reshaping the search for dark matter, with an emphasis on key breakthroughs and ongoing challenges. I will also outline several promising future directions.
About the lecturer: Roberto Ruiz de Austri is a researcher at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC), working on the physics beyond the standard model with a focus on AI-driven dark-matter searches, cosmology, and gravitational-wave physics. He is a core member of the GAMBIT collaboration, contributes to CheckMATE and CosmiXs, and is involved in ATLAS and MoEDAL experiments, and LISA mission.
