Vabimo vas na 10. predavanje iz sklopa >Kolokviji na IJS< v akademskem letu
2024/25, ki bo v sredo, 23. aprila 2025, ob 13:00 v Veliki predavalnici
Instituta >Jožef Stefan< na Jamovi cesti 39 v Ljubljani. Predavanje bo v
slovenščini. Na voljo bodo kava, pijača in prigrizki.
Orientirana zraščanja mineralov: nastanek in pomen
izr. prof. dr. Nina Daneu

Orientirana zraščanja so pogosta tako v naravnih mineralih kot tudi v
sintetiziranih funkcionalnih materialih. Mednje spadajo kontaktni, ciklični
in interpenetracijski dvojčki ter epitaksialna preraščanja strukturno
sorodnih faz. V predavanju bom na različnih primerih pokazala, da je
poznavanje lokalne atomske strukture in kemijske sestave kontaktnih ravnin
med kristalnimi domenami, ki se med rastjo povežejo preko določenega
kristalografskega zakona, ključno za razumevanje njihovega nastanka. Glavno
eksperimentalno orodje za naše analize je presevna elektronska mikroskopija.
Rezultati raziskav po eni strani omogočajo interpretacijo geokemijskih
pogojev med rastjo mineralov v naravi, po drugi strani pa lahko spoznanja,
pridobljena pri proučevanju naravnih mineralov, s pridom uporabimo za
sintezo funkcionalnih materialov z izboljšanimi lastnostmi.
O predavateljici: Nina Daneu je znanstvena svetnica na Institutu >Jožef
Stefan< in izredna profesorica na Mednarodni podiplomski šoli Jožefa Stefana
v Ljubljani.

We invite you to the 10th lecture in the framework of >JSI Colloquia< in the
academic year 2024/25, which will take place on Wednesday, April 23, 2025,
at 1:00 PM in the main lecture hall of Jožef Stefan Institute, Jamova cesta
39 in Ljubljana. The lecture will be held in Slovenian. Coffee, drinks and
snacks will be available.
Oriented mineral intergrowths: formation and implications

Oriented intergrowths are common in both natural minerals and synthesized
functional materials. Examples include contact, cyclic, and interpenetration
twins, as well as epitaxial intergrowths of structurally related phases. In
my lecture, I will present various examples to show that the knowledge of
the local atomic structure and chemical composition of crystallographic
interfaces that form during crystal growth is key to understanding their
formation. The main experimental tool for our analyses is transmission
electron microscopy. The results of our research enable, on the one hand,
the interpretation of geochemical conditions during mineral growth in
nature, and on the other hand, the application of insights gained from
natural minerals to the synthesis of functional materials with improved
properties.
About the lecturer: Nina Daneu is a scientific councilor at the Jožef Stefan
Institute and an associate professor at the Jožef Stefan International
Postgraduate School in Ljubljana.
