Kvantni senzorji s snovnimi valovi

We invite you to the 11th lecture in the framework of »JSI Colloquia« in the academic year 2022/23, which will take place on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 1:00 PM in the main lecture hall of Jožef Stefan Institut, Jamova cesta 39 in Ljubljana. This is a rescheduled term, as the lecture was originally planned in April, but canceled due to logistical problems of the lecturer. The lecture is organized as part of the <https://plus.ijs.si/sl/svetovni-kvantni-dan/> World Quantum Day and will be held in English. Coffee, drinks and snacks will be available.

Quantum sensors with matter waves

The past decades have seen significant progress in controlling the motion of atoms, resulting in quantum sensors that offer both fundamental and practical applications. These sensors can measure acceleration, rotation, and even detect gravitational waves with unprecedented accuracy. They are currently used as references for fundamental physical constants and have applications in fields such as navigation, geophysics, and general relativity tests. We already use them in airplanes, boats, and even in space. In this talk I will describe the development of quantum sensors exploiting interferometry of matter waves. The next challenge is to create compact and mobile versions that can be used in a wide range of applications, including monitoring underground water resources, predicting volcano eruptions, and detecting hidden objects. This could revolutionize many areas of science and technology in the coming years.

About the lecturer: Philippe Bouyer is coordinator of Quantum Sensing Applications programme at Quantum Delta NL in Netherlands, deputy director of the Institut d'Optique graduate school in Paris, France, and co-founder and chief advisory scientist of Muquans (now iXblue), a France-based company dedicated to quantum precision sensors.
