Preučili smo lastnosti širokega nabora koordinacijskih spojin s spremembo spinskega stanja (angl. spin crossover complex), kovinsko-organskih mrež, magnetnih snovi in termokromnih spojin, in nekatere od teh bomo predstavili v predavanju.

Structure-property relationships from diffraction data

The talk will show ways in which 3D structure influences the bulk properties of materials and how we can learn much from the evolution of structure under varying conditions of external stimuli. Examples will be taken from our own work and will include descriptions of the cutting-edge instrumentation that has been developed in Durham to perform such variable temperature and variable pressure studies. We have investigated a wide range of materials’ properties such as spin crossover complexes, MOF-like materials, magnetic species and thermochromic compounds, some of which will be illustrated in the talk. X-ray and neutron crystallography plays an important role in the study relating molecular structure to properties, in particular for commercially important materials and chemically fascinating novel compounds. For many biomolecules, full knowledge of the 3D structure can be the start of understanding its primary biological function and therefore how it might interact with potential drug molecules, once the detailed atomic arrangement in the active sites is known.

Cordially invited!
