Izboljšanje korozijske odpornosti kovin z nanašanjem atomskih plasti

 

Zanimanje za uporabo nanometrskih konformnih prevlek na vrsti področij od elektronskih komponent do korozijske zaščite, kemijskih pregrad in celo odpornosti na obrabo v zadnjem času narašča. Nanašanje atomskih plasti (atomic layer deposition, ALD) je ena od najbolj obetavnih tehnik izdelave nanometrskih slojev, ki omogoča pripravo konformne prevleke zelo kompleksnih trorazsežnih substratov raznolikega kemijskega značaja z izvrstno  toleranco debeline in močno adhezijo. V vsakem ciklu ALD nanesemo na površino substrata le eno molekularno plast, kar dovoljuje nadzor sestave depozita z molekularno ločljivostjo ter s tem domala enkratne lastnosti slednjega. Zato je ta tehnologija zanimiva in inovativna alternative sedanjim načinom protikorozijske zaščite, kot so elektrodepozicija, barvanje ter druge kemijske ali fizične tehnike parne depozicije. Predstavili bomo uporabo ALD za protikorozijsko zaščito različnih kovinskih zlitin za rabo v industriji, kot so nerjavno jeklo, aluminij in magnezijeve zlitine. Govorili bomo tudi o možnosti kombiniranja te tehnike z nekaterimi tradicionalnimi pristopi, s čimer je mogoče pripraviti večslojne prevleke, ki nudijo izboljšano zaščito.

Improving metal corrosion resistance by atomic layer deposition

 

 

Interests on nanometric conformal coatings are nowadays growing in a wide range of applications, from electronic components to corrosion protection, chemical barriers or even wear resistance. Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) is one of the most promising nanometric deposition technologies which offers the possibility to obtain conformal coatings even on very complex tridimensional substrates of different chemical nature, with a strict thickness tolerance and strong adhesion. During an ALD cycle, only one molecular layer is deposited on the substrate surface, enabling the theoretical possibility to tailor the composition of the deposit up to molecular resolution, thus obtaining almost unique properties. Therefore this technology appears to be an interesting and innovative alternative to the existing ones aimed to metal corrosion protection, such as electrodeposition, painting or other chemical or physical vapor deposition technologies. This work describes the use of ALD for the corrosion protection of different metal alloys of common industrial interest such as stainless steels, aluminum or magnesium alloys. Moreover, the possibility of combining this deposition technology with some traditional ones is also discussed with the aim of obtaining improved protection properties by multilayer coatings capable of enhancing the protective barrier action.
