Vabim vas na 5. predavanje iz sklopa "Kolokviji na IJS" v letu 2009/10, ki
bo v petek, 20. novembra 2009, ob 13. uri v Veliki predavalnici Instituta

Evropske raziskave vesolja

 

Evropa je pred več kot tremi desetletji združila svoje sile pri raziskavah
vesolja in ustanovila Evropsko vesoljsko agencijo (European Space Agency -
ESA).  Danes se lahko ESA pohvali s številnimi dosežki: ustvarila je
komercialno najbolj uspešno lansirno postajo, vesoljske raziskave in
tehnologija pa so v samem svetovnem vrhu. Evropska vesoljska plovila
opazujejo Zemljo, preiskujejo vesolje ter krožijo okoli planetov. Vsi ti
dosežki temeljijo na usklajenem evropskem delovanju, kjer igra ESA ključno
vlogo. Letos smo izstrelili dva znanstvena satelita: Herschel, ki je
največji teleskop doslej, ter Planck, ki gleda nazaj proti najzgodnejšim
časom našega vesolja. V predavanju bodo predstavljeni nekateri najnovejši
dosežki ter tudi cilji prihodnjih misij. Predstavljena bo struktura in
delovanje ESE ter možnosti sodelovanja raziskovalnih institucij ter
industrije pri njenih projektih.

Space Research in Europe

 

Europe had joined forces more than three decades ago, creating the European
Space Agency (ESA). Today the commercially most successful launcher is
european, and our space research and technology is cutting edge. Our
spacecraft observe the earth, study the Universe and orbit other planets.

 

These achievements build on a coherent approach, in which ESA plays a major
role. Two major scientific satellites have been launched this year:
Herschel, the largest telescope yet launched by mankind, and Planck, which
is looking back at the dawn of time. Examples of recent results will be
presented, and a view of future missions will be given. The lecture will
cast some light onto the structure and working of ESA, and its interactions
with european industry and research institutions.
