Vabim vas na 11. predavanje iz sklopa "Kolokviji na IJS" v letu 2007/08, ki bo v sredo, 30. januarja 2008, ob 13:00 uri v Veliki predavalnici Instituta >Jožef Stefan< na Jamovi cesti 39 v Ljubljani. Ogljikove nanocevke: sinteza in uporaba

 

Ogljikove nanocevke so lahko kovinske ali pa polprevodniške, prevajajo elektriko bolje kot baker in toploto bolje kot diamant ter se uvrščajo med najmočnejše znane materiale. V zadnjih dveh desetletjih so raziskave ogljikovih nanocevk in nanofibrov napredovale izredno hitro, tako v akademskih krogih kot tudi v industriji. Razvoj novih sinteznih poti pa omogoča tudi razmišljanje o njihovi potencialni uporabi. Ogljikove nanocevke so se izkazale za odlične emitorje elektronov, mikroskopske igle, kot prevodna polnila v polimernih kompozitih in v gorivnih celicah. Uporabimo jih lahko tudi v nanoelektroniki za izdelavo diod ali tranzistorjev, v superkondenzatorjih, kot elektromehanske aktuatorje, kemijske senzorje ali pa za proteinsko detekcijo. 

V predavanju bomo podali pregled možnih sinteznih metod in natančneje opisali nekatere uporabe ogljikovih nanocevk - nanovlakenskih kompozitnih materialov v letalski in elektrokemijski industriji.

Carbon Nanotubes: Synthesis and Applications

 

Nanotubes can behave like metals or semiconductors, can conduct electricity better than copper, can transmit heat better than diamond, and rank among the strongest materials known. In the last two decades carbon nanotube and nanofibre related research and development has grown considerably, both in academia and industry. The development of new production routes, and prediction and observation of unusual properties has led to suggestion and realization of many fascinating applications. Carbon nanotubes have proven to be good field emitters, scanning electron microscope tips, as conducting fillers in polymer composite materials, and in fuel cells. They can be used in nanoelectronics as diodes and transistors, in supercapacitors, as electromechanical actuators, as chemical sensors, as cell growth scaffold, in DNA microarrays, or for protein sensing.

An overview of carbon nanotube and nanofibre synthesis methods and the most recent applications will be presented with focus on aerospace and electrochemical applications related to carbon nanotube - carbon fibre composites.
