Subject: European SIG Chapter Feedback Needed!
Dear European ACM SIG Chapter Chairpeople,
We are sending you this message and survey questions on behalf of Gerhard
Schimpf, Chair of the ACM German Chapter, as well as Chair of the ACM Europe
Council Chapter Subcommittee.
You may be aware, that ACM has launched a regional initiative aimed at
recognizing and supporting European members and expanding ACM activities in
our region. For a detailed description of this effort and participating
council members, please take a look at the website of the ACM Europe Council
http://europe.acm.org/.
One of the efforts is chapter development. How do we get more ACM SIG
Chapters, more ACM Professional Chapters, and more ACM Student Chapters in
Europe. To pursue this, a committee on chapter development has been formed,
which consists of Avi Mendelson (Microsoft Research, Israel), Marc Shapiro
(INRIA and LIP6, France) and myself.
I am writing to you today in the name of this committee. We would like to
involve you in our planning process and share with you your knowledge and
experience in running and organizing chapters. To develop a European
perspective, you can help us by taking a look at the questions below and
providing your feedback. And, to get your feedback to these questions, we
would like to set up a telephone interview with you. ACM Chapter Coordinator
Samantha Goldberg will be in touch with you to set up a convenient time for
this interview.
Please consider the following questions:
1. We would like to understand and share "Best Practices" in terms of
European SIG Chapter development. Concerning your activities, can you list
and describe your success factors?
2. What are the stumbling blocks in attracting new members to your
Chapter?
3. What do you think the ACM Europe Council can do to help European SIG
Chapters attract new members?
4. What do you think are the best ways to help create new ACM SIG
Chapters in Europe?
5. Do you see a particular role to be played by the ACM Europe Council
in the creation of SIG Chapters?
6. Do you think there is a possibility of starting an ACM Student
Chapter in your area? And, if so, at what school(s)?
7. What ideas do you have for providing more visibility to ACM European
Members, as well as more visibility to ACM technical activities in Europe?
Thank You!
Samantha Goldberg for:
Gerhard Schmipf, Chair, German Chapter of the ACM &
ACM Europe Chapter Subcommittee
P.S. We will contact you to set up a telephone interview in order to get
your feedback to the above questions.
